ATOP Launched 50G QSFP28 ER Optical Modules to Boost 5G Mid-haul and Backhaul

In 2020, China Mobile plans a total capital expenditure of about 25.3 billion dollars, of which 5G-related investment plans are about 1.4 billion dollars. In the aspect of 5G network construction, China Mobile will build 250,000 5G base stations to achieve commercial use in cities , and the demand for 50G optical modules will reach 500,000 (roughly calculated based on 2 optical modules per base station). Meanwhile, if another two operators — China Telecom and China Unicom adopt 50G optical modules as their main solutions for 5G mid-haul and backhaul, the demand for 50G optical modules will at least be double.

Faced with this market opportunity, ATOP officially launched the 50G QSFP28 ER optical module in virtue of its industry chain vertical integration capability and optical device packaging capability. The product has successfully completed the sample test recently, and it is able to realize mass shipment after August. At present, this product is available for demo requirement , welcome to contact us.

ATOP 50G QSFP28 ER optical module adopts the standard QSFP28 package form and applies PAM4 modulation technology. The device solution is EML + APD. The transmission rate can reach up to 53.125Gbps and the transmission distance is 40km. The product can support commercial-grade operating temperature, and the indexes are compatible with IEEE 802.3 cn_50GBASE-ER standard. This product is with high bandwidth and low power consumption. It can be applied for mid-haul and backhaul in the 5G network architecture, which meets the needs of high bandwidth and low cost of 5G carrying. At the same time, in the data center scenario, 50G optical module can also be used for the connection between the NIC and ToR in the hyperscale data center.

Based on the needs of the 5G carrying network, ATOP strives to provide more 50G series products in the future, including 50G QSFP28 LR and 50G QSFP28 BIDI LR / ER. This series of products will be launched in the third quarter of this year, and will provide customers with more 5G mid-haul and backhaul solutions, so stay tuned.
